Men's Basketball Drops 78-66 Contest To UMSL
The Northwood University men's basketball team dropped a 78-66 contest to UMSL Sunday afternoon (November 10).
The game was a part of the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge, hosted by Lake Superior State University. Both teams finish the event 1-1 overall.
UMSL connected on the first shot of the game and would lead the rest of the way. The Tritons led by as many as 13 in the first half before settling for a 37-30 lead at the break. Northwood finished the half with a higher field goal percentage overall in the half (46.2-40.0), but the Timberwolves had five more turnovers (8-3) and the Tritons connected on four more 3-pointers (6-2).
The Timberwolves fought back to get within one on two separate occasions in the second half, but UMSL was the better team down the stretch. Northwood trailed 63-58 with under six minutes remaining, but the Tritons scored nine of the next 10 points to put the game away.
Northwood finished the game over 50 percent from the floor (51.9 percent – 27-52) while UMSL finished at 46.3 percent (25-54). UMSL earned the win thanks to committing seven fewer turnovers (16-9) and connecting on 11 more free throws (21-10).
Wes Wilcox (Roselle, Ill./Harper) led all scorers with 28 points, going 11-15 from the floor. He also had seven rebounds and a pair of blocks. Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./South Lake) had 20 points, eight rebounds and four blocks.
Northwood will host Indianapolis Saturday night (November 16). Game time is set for 7 p.m.
