Men's Basketball Downs Dayspring Bible College 96-30
The Northwood University men's basketball team earned a 96-30 win over Dayspring Bible College Monday night (December 2).
Northwood improves to 4-2 on the season. Dayspring falls to 0-2 with the loss.
The score was tied 7-7 early on when Northwood took over – especially down low. Northwood scored 41 of the final 47 points of the half to take a 48-13 lead to the locker room. The Timberwolves finished the opening 20 minutes with a 34-4 edge in points in the paint while shooting 61.1 percent from the floor (22-36). NU also out-rebounded the Eagles 24-7 while holding big advantages in points off turnovers (18-4), second chance points (13-2) fast break points (13-0) and bench points (18-0).
Northwood opened the second half on a 13-2 run and maintained control the rest of the way. Their 66 point lead was the Timberwolves biggest of the night.
Overall, NU finished at 59.4 percent from the floor (38-64). Dayspring Bible ended the game at 25.0 percent (11-44). Northwood ended the night with huge advantages in rebounding (50-16), points in the paint (60-14), points off turnovers (36-11), second chance points (28-3), fast break points (23-6) and bench points (45-2).
Six Timberwolves finished in double figures, led by junior center Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./South Lake). He scored a game-high 15 points to lead the balanced attack. Wes Wilcox (Roselle, Ill./Harper) added 14 points and nine rebounds, while Casey Boyle (Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake Central) netted a career-high 14 points. Dylan Langkabel (Morristown, Ind.) had 13 points, while Tony Johnson (Midland, Mich.) and Lavonte Davis (Ypsilanti, Mich.) added 11 points each.
Northwood will open GLIAC play Thursday night (December 5) against Hillsdale. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
