Men's Basketball Drops 80-73 Contest To Chaminade

The Northwood University men's basketball team dropped an 80-73 contest at Chaminade Thursday night (December 19).

Northwood falls to 7-4 with the loss. Chaminade improves to 5-4 with the win.

The Silverswords took the early lead, going up by as many as seven in the opening minutes. The Timberwolves fought back, using an 11-0 run to go up 20-16. Chaminade eventually earned a 33-32 lead at the break. NU shot just 34.4 percent from the floor in the opening 20 minutes (11-32), but grabbed 10 offensive rebounds to take an 11-2 edge in second chance points.

The score was tied 42-42 with less than 15 minutes to go when Chaminade went on a run.  The Silverswords scored 14 of the next 17 points to open up a 56-45 advantage. NU fought back, cutting the lead down to 62-60 with 5:24 to go. But the Silverswords responded with a quick run of their own, scoring seven points in less than a minute. Northwood got no closer than four the rest of the way.

For the game, Northwood shot 43.3 percent from the floor (26-70). NU went 9-27 from 3-point range (33.3 percent) and just 12-22 from the foul line (54.5 percent). Chaminade shot 41.3 percent overall (26-63) and  41.7 percent from 3-point range (10-24). Turnovers were a key to the game, as NU had seven more than CU (15-8). That allowed the Silverswords to hold a 16-7 edge in points off turnovers.

Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./Southlake) led the way for Northwood, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Wes Wilcox (Roselle, Ill./Harper) added 13 points, six rebounds and four assists. Khalid King (Columbus, Ohio/North Carolina A&T) scored all 12 of his points after halftime. He also added seven rebounds and five assists.

Northwood will take on BYU Hawaii Saturday night (December 21). Game time is set for 12:30 a.m. (ET).
