Men's Basketball Falls At Wayne State 89-72

The Northwood University men's basketball team dropped an 89-72 contest at Wayne State Thursday night (February 6).

Northwood falls to 15-9 overall, 11-5 in the GLIAC. Wayne State improves to 11-8 overall, 9-7 in the GLIAC.

The score was tied 2-2 early when Wayne State set the tone for the rest of the game.  The Warriors scored the next nine points to go up 11-2.  WSU led the remainder of the first half and would go up by as many as 14.  The Warriors eventually took a 44-32 lead to the locker room, thanks in large part  to shooting 56.2 percent from the floor (18-32).

NU cut the lead down to five (57-52) around the 12 minute mark of the second half, but were never able to come all the way back. The Warriors continued to perform at a high level on the offensive end, shooting 53.3 percent in the second half (16-30).

WSU finished the game at 54.8 percent overall (34-62) while Northwood ended up at  44.4 percent (24-54). The Timberwolves shot the same in both halves – 12-27 from the floor.

Wes Wilcox (Roselle, Ill./Harper) led the way for Northwood, finishing with a game-high 27 points. He finished the game 12-14 from the foul line. Wilcox also added seven rebounds and three assists. Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./Southlake) had 14 points, six rebounds and four blocks. Dylan Langkabel (Morristown, Ind.) and Khalid King (Columbus, Ohio/North Carolina A&T) added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Northwood will host GLIAC leader No. 25 Lake Superior State Saturday afternoon (February 8). Game time is set for 3 p.m.
