Men's Basketball Defeats Ferris State 81-65
The Northwood University men's basketball team defeated Ferris State 81-65 Thursday evening (February 13).
The Timberwolves are now 16-6 on the season, 12-6 in the GLIAC. The Bulldogs fall to 7-14 on the year and 6-11 in the GLIAC.
Northwood came out strong, scoring the first five points of the game. Ferris State fought right back scoring the next five to tie the game at the 15:51 mark. NU then went on a 11-0 run over the next seven minutes, to claim a 16-5 lead. The Timberwolves led by as many as 16 points in the opening period and took a 31-18 advantage into the locker room. Northwood shot 40.0 percent (12-30) from the floor and held a 26-15 rebound advantage.
FSU was able to cut the lead to nine at 32-23, but NU answered with a 13-0 run and Ferris State would get no closer the rest of the way. NU continued to apply the pressure and led by as many as 25 points in the closing period. The Timberwolves finished shooting 26-57 (45.6 percent) from the floor and 25-26 (96.2 percent) from the free throw line. Northwood out-rebounded the Bulldogs 46-24.
Five Timberwolves finished in double-figures, led by senior Wes Wilcox (Roselle, Ill. / Harper) who finished with 18 points and seven rebounds. Darvin Ham (Saginaw, Mich. / Bridgeport) and Dylan Langkabel (Morristown, Ind. ) each netted 16 points. Khalid King (Columbus Ohio / North Carolina A&T) added 11 points and six assists, while Lavonte Davis (Ypsilanti, Mich.) finished with 10 points. Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich. / Southlake) grabbed 11 rebounds to go with eight points and two blocks.
