Men's Basketball Comeback Falls Short - NU Falls At Walsh 84-76

The Northwood University men's basketball team fell at the hands of the Walsh Cavaliers 84-76 Wednesday evening (March 5th) in the quarter finals of the GLIAC tournament.

With the win, Walsh moves to 22-5. Walsh advances to play Findley in the semifinals of the GLIAC tournament. With the defeat, Northwood's season comes to an end with an overall record of 18-13.

Northwood started the game by connecting on their first three 3-pointers to jump out to an 11-5 lead in the opening minutes. Walsh responded with strong offensive shooting to take control late in the first half, which included a 15-2 run. Walsh eventually led 47-34 at halftime.

Walsh continued the strong play offensively in the first part of the second half, stretching the lead to as many as 22 (74-52) with 10:21 remaining. Northwood came storming back by putting together a 19-2 run, cutting the lead 76-71 with 3:43 remaining. Northwood got within four points with under two minutes to go but were unable to get any closer.

Northwood finished the contest shooting 30-65 (46.2 percent) from the floor while Walsh shot 28-60 (46.7 percent). Walsh connected on 48 percent from beyond the arc (12-25), compared to the Timberwolves at 9-23 (39.1 percent). Both teams struggled from the charity stripe - NU shot an uncharacteristic 46.7 percent (7-15) from the foul line, while the Cavaliers finished at 51.6 percent (16 -31).

Darvin Ham (Saginaw, Mich. / Bridgeport) led all scorers with 26 points and also added seven rebounds. Wes Wilcox (Roselle,Ill./Harper) chipped in with 19 points and seven rebound for NU.
