Men's Golf Finishes 6th At GLIAC North Tournament
The Northwood University men's golf team placed sixth out of 14 teams at the GLIAC North Tournament Sunday afternoon (September 22).
The two-day, 36-hole event was held at Hawkshead Links. The course played as a par 72 (7,039 yards).
Northwood shot team scores of 294 and 299 to finish at 593 overall. Saginaw Valley State was the overall winner at 578, followed by Malone at 585. The next six teams were separated by just eight shots – Tiffin was third at 589 while Ferris State was eighth at 597.
Leading the way for Northwood was senior Bruce Eccleton (Saginaw, Mich./Mott CC). He tied for ninth overall with rounds of 70-76 to finish with a two-over par total of 146. Sophomore Matt Benson (Grand Ledge, Mich.) and freshman Matt Garland (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview) both tied for 18th at 148. A total of 80 players took part in the event.
Northwood will compete at the first NCAA Regional tournament of the year September 29-30.
