Men's Golf Places Second At Watrous Intercollegiate

BAY CITY, MICH. - The Northwood University mens golf team opened their 2014-15 season with a second place finish at the Watrous Intercollegiate Sunday afternoon (September 14).


The two-day, 36-hole event was held at the Bay City Country Club. The course played as a 6,860 yard, par 72.


Northwood shot team scores of 295 and 293 to finish with a five-over par total of 588. Ferris State was the overall winner at 583, with Lake Superior State in third place at 590. A total of eight teams, all from the GLIAC, took part in the event.


Leading the way for Northwood was junior Paul Ostby (Mt. Morris, Mich./Mott CC), who made his first appearance at Northwood a memorable one. He took first place overall in the event, carding matching rounds of 71 to finish two-under par overall. Matt Benson (Grand Ledge, Mich.) shot 73-74 to tie for 10th overall. Sixty golfers competed in in the event.


Northwood will return to action September 20-21 at the GLIAC North Tournament.
