Evan Johnson Named GLIAC Men's Golf Freshman of the Year

2022 All-GLIAC Teams

MIDLAND, MICH. – Evan Johnson from the Northwood University men's golf team has been named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Freshman of the year as a part of the conference's post-season awards, which were announced Wednesday (May 11).

Johnson was also named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC, as was fellow freshman David Skobe.

Johnson is the third player in Northwood history to earn GLIAC Freshman of the Year, joining Dane Yarnell (2001) and Luigi Spadafora (2006). Johnson finished his first season at Northwood with the team's top scoring average at 74.9. He picked up a pair of top-10 finishes for the Timberwolves and ended the year with a personal winning percentage of .649 (469-254). Johnson was extremely consistent in the spring portion of the schedule – over the final four events of the season, he shot 76 or better in all 10 rounds.

Skobe also played in all nine events for Northwood this season, ending with a 75.3 scoring average. His best result of the season came at the opening event of the spring, where he placed fifth overall to help Northwood to the overall tournament title.

Northwood reached the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals for the first time in program history in 2022. They achieved this despite having their top three players being all freshmen.
