Men's Lacrosse Earns Big 12-11 Win Over Walsh In Midland

RECAP: Northwood men's lacrosse erased an early deficit and held off Walsh Saturday (March 7), earning a big 12-11 victory at Dean Field in Midland. The win came against a Walsh squad that was picked No. 2 in the G-MAC preseason poll, two spots ahead of the Timberwolves.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Northwood answered an early Walsh goal as Payton Allaire evened the score with an unassisted tally at the 10:58 mark of the first quarter. Walsh responded with a quick run midway through the period, building a 5-1 lead.
- The Timberwolves began to rally late in the opening frame. Allaire started the push with his second goal of the game off a feed from MacKennan Tognetti before completing the hat trick with 2:25 remaining. Drew Lockwood added a goal with just 10 seconds left in the quarter, cutting the deficit to 5-4 after one.
- Northwood carried the momentum into the second quarter as Allaire tied the game at 5-5 early in the period off an assist from Lockwood. Walsh answered with a pair of goals to regain the lead, but the Timberwolves responded late in the half. Andrew Rogers scored twice in the final four minutes, both assisted by Lockwood, to even the score at 7-7. A late Walsh goal sent the teams into halftime with Northwood trailing 8-7.
- The Timberwolves opened the second half strong as Rogers tied the game early in the third quarter with another goal off a Lockwood assist. Walsh briefly regained the lead, but Rogers struck again late in the period off a feed from Ryder Mulvey to knot the contest at 9-9 heading into the final quarter.
- Northwood took its first lead since early in the game when Rogers scored an unassisted goal at the 9:02 mark of the fourth quarter. Walsh answered to tie the game at 10-10 before the Timberwolves delivered the decisive stretch. Lockwood scored with 3:13 remaining off an assist from Rogers to give Northwood the lead, and Allaire added an insurance goal with 1:39 left following another Rogers assist.
- Walsh added a late goal in the final seconds, but Northwood held on defensively to secure the 12-11 victory.
- In goal, Easton Beukema made 13 saves to anchor the Timberwolves' defense in the win.
