The Northwood University men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 overtime contest at Urbana Monday afternoon (October 8).
Northwood, which has now gone 0-3-1 in overtime this season, falls to 5-4-1 overall. Urbana stands at 7-4-1 on the season.
The Timberwolves had the better of the play in the first half, but were unable to break through as the game went to the break scoreless. NU finished with a 10-7 advantage in shots and a 2-0 edge in corners in the opening 45 minutes.
The Blue Knights were the better team in the second half and in overtime. Urbana out-shot the Timberwolves 10-3 in the second half and 6-1 in overtime before netting the game-winner. The goal was scored with 49 seconds remaining in the first overtime period.
For the match, Urbana finished with a 23-14 advantage in shots. Northwood held a 4-2 edge in corners. Freshman keeper David Perez (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) played well in his first career start, making 11 saves in a losing effort.
Northwood will travel to Malone Friday afternoon (October 12). Match time is set for 3 p.m.
