The Northwood University men's soccer team claimed an impressive 2-0 win at Tiffin Friday afternoon (October 26).
The Timberwolves are now 9-5-1 overall, 8-4 in the GLIAC. Tiffin falls to 5-8-2 overall, 4-6-1 in the GLIAC.
Northwood came out strong in the first half, controlling the play throughout. The Timberwolves broke through at the 27:00 mark. Liam MacHugh (Toronto, Canada/Neil McNeil) put in a rebound off a shot that hit the crossbar to give NU the lead. James DeCosemo (Stokesley, England) picked up the assist on the goal, which was the only tally of the first half. Northwood dominated the play in the opening 45 minutes, out-shooting the Dragons 11-0.
NU extended their lead in the 61 minutes. Sam Nair (London, England/Nower Hill) netted his team-leading ninth goal of the season to put the Timberwolves up 2-0. DeCosemo crossed the ball into Nair, giving him his second assist of the day.
For the match, Northwood owned the stat sheet. The Timberwolves finished with a 24-3 advantage in shots for the match, including an 11-1 edge in shots on goal. NU also had a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Freshman keeper Johannes Sterobo (Odense, Denmark/Tornbjerg) needed to make just one save for his sixth clean sheet of the season.
Northwood will finish the regular season with a match at Findlay Sunday (October 28). Match time is set for Noon.
