The Northwood University soccer team saw its 2012 season come to an end with a 3-0 loss to rival Saginaw Valley State Friday afternoon (November 2) in the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals.
The Timberwolves finish the season 10-7-1 overall. SVSU moves into the finals with a record of 14-2-3.
SVSU took control of the match in the first half, thanks largely to a great start and finish to the opening 45 minutes. The Cardinals netted a goal 1:12 into the game to go up 1-0. After another goal at the 15:42 mark to make it 2-0, SVSU found the back of the net with just seven seconds remaining in the half to go to the break up 3-0. Saginaw Valley finished the half with a 9-5 edge in shots and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
Northwood generated more chances in the second half, out-shooting the Cardinals 13-4 in the final 45 minutes. The Timberwolves also held at 3-1 edge in corner kicks.
For the match, NU finished with an 18-13 edge in shots and a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
