Men's Soccer Earns 2-1 Win Over Ohio Dominican

The Northwood University men's soccer team defeated Ohio Dominican 2-1 on Sunday afternoon (October 5).

The Timberwolves are now 6-2-1 on the year, 4-2-1 in the GLIAC. The Panthers fall to 6-4 overall, 4-3 in the GLIAC.

Once again NU was able to get on the board early, netting two goals in the opening period. Defenseman Dominic Hart (Rotherham, England) earned a non-traditional goal at 20:48 when he placed a free kick from more than 35 yards out off the head of a defender and into the back of the net. Shortly later, senior defenseman Michael Ankoviak (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) netted the second goal of his career on a header off a free kick from Jack Smith (Milnthorpe, England). The Panthers got on the board with a penalty kick goal at 33:58.

Tension continued in the second half with a number of fouls and cautions given. For the match, ODU edged NU out in shots (12-11) and corner kicks (5-3). There were a total of 41 fouls, six yellow and two red cards distributed in the match. Smith finished with two shots and an assist, while Keaton Levock (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Chippewa Valley) also recorded two shots.
