COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Northwood University men's soccer team earned a dramatic 4-3 win at Ohio Dominican on Friday afternoon (October 17).
The Timberwolves improve to 9-2-1 on the year, 7-2-1 in the GLIAC. The Panthers are now 7-6 overall, 5-5 in the GLIAC.
While the Timberwolves like to score early in a match, Ohio Dominican was the first team to net a goal in under ten minutes. The Panthers followed with a second goal in the 30th minute to enter halftime with a 2-0 lead. Northwood held an advantage in shots (6-3) in the first half, while ODU shot four corner kicks.
NU maintained composure and cut the lead to 2-1 in the 57th minute on a goal from senior Michael Ankoviak (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern). Ankoviak finished another header off a corner kick from Brady Cole (Plymouth, Mich. / Salem). This was his third goal of the season, all coming from headers. Ohio Dominican answered quickly with a rebounded shot to put the Panthers ahead 3-1. NU was able to chip away with a goal from Gino Pasquali (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Eisenhower) at 79:13 off a rebounded shot by Keaton Levock (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Niagara). Less than three minutes later, Levock netted his own goal for his sixth of the season to tie the match at 3-3. Pasquali scored the game-winning goal at 83:29 off a missed header from James Vaughan (Bexhill, England) on a corner kick.
For the match, NU out-shot the Panthers 17-7 and held an advantage in corner kicks (7-5). There were a total of 36 fouls in the match. Levock finished with four shots and a goal, while Pasquali finished both of his shots for two goals. Ankoviak recorded a goal and two shots in the match.
The Timberwolves currently sit third in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, behind Saginaw Valley (7-2-1) and Tiffin (8-2). NU travels to Lake Erie on Sunday (October 19). Match is set for 1 p.m.
