Men's Tennis Falls In GLIAC Tournament Finals
The No. 13 Northwood University men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 5-4 contest to No. 46 Ferris State in the finals of the GLIAC Tournament Sunday morning (April 22).
The loss is the first of the season for Northwood, who now stand at 14-1 overall. Ferris State improves to 16-6 with the win.
FSU got off to a fast start in doubles, winning the first two matches of the day. Northwood's No. 1 duo of Teddy Mebounou and Marcus Oliveira, who are currently ranked No. 11 nationally, got Northwood on the board with a 9-8 win at the No. 1 position.
It was the bottom of the Ferris State lineup that earned the Bulldogs the win. Northwood claimed straight-set wins at each of the top three positions, but FSU won at each of the final three slots to earn the tournament title. The Bulldogs claimed the win when they earned a third-set tiebreaker victory at the No. 5 position.
Northwood will now await their draw for the NCAA Tournament. The field will be announced Tuesday night (April 24) at 8 p.m. on NCAA.com.
