Men's Tennis Moves To GLIAC Tournament Finals
The No. 13 Northwood University men's tennis team moved on to the GLIAC Tournament finals with a 5-2 win over Grand Valley State Saturday afternoon (April 21).
Northwood is now 14-0 overall. Grand Valley State falls to 11-14.
GVSU was the better team in doubles, earning wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions to go up 2-1 heading into singles. Northwood's lone win came at the No. 1 position thanks to the duo of Teddy Mebounou and Marcus Oliveira, who are currently ranked No. 11 in the nation in doubles.
Northwood responded to the slow start in doubles by dominating the singles matches. The Timberwolves earned straight-set wins at the second through fifth positions to complete the match. The Lakers won a total of just 14 games in those four matches.
The Timberwolves will face the winner of the Ferris State/Wayne State match in the finals Sunday (April 22). First serve is set for 9 a.m.
