Men's Tennis Downs Palm Beach Atlantic 6-3

The Northwood University men's tennis team downed Palm Beach Atlantic 6-3 Wednesday afternoon (March 12) in Kissimmee, Fla.

The Timberwolves are now 4-2 overall. The Sailfish fall to 6-7 on the season.

NU continues to dominate doubles competition, winning all three spots. The team of Jean Menard (Amboise, France) and Lorenzo Montegiorgi (Velletri, Italy) earned an 8-5 victory in the top spot, as Konstantin Zhukov (Kazan, Russia) and Salikh Gilmutdinov (Kazan, Russia) competed in as the No. 2 team and posted an 8-6 victory. Midland native, Austin Woody (Midland, Mich. / Dow) and Felipe Crema Bastistella (São José dos Campos, Brazil) continued the trend in an exciting 9-7 win over the No. 3 Sailfish team.

Three Timberwolves earned a victory in singles competition. Menard continues his success in the top spot, dropping just two games in a 6-0, 6-2 win. Zhukov also picked up a win in the No. 4 spot having lost a combined four games: 6-1, 6-3. At the No. 5 spot, Woody was successful after taking Nicholas Battistini to three sets 6-3, 7-6 (9-7). Gilmutdinov [6-7, 6-0, 1-0 (10-5)] and Bastistella [4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7)] also forced third sets in the match.  

Northwood will travel to St. Augustine, Fla. to compete against Flagler on Friday (March 14). Match time is set for 2 p.m.
