Men's Tennis Downs Lake Superior 9-0
The Northwood University men's tennis team defeated Lake Superior State … in the first home match of the season Saturday afternoon (March 29).
The Timberwolves are now 7-3 on the season, 3-1 in the GLIAC. The Lakers fall to 9-10 on the year, 2-4 in the GLIAC.
NU came out strong opening with three wins in doubles competition. Jean Menard (Amboise, France) and Lorenzo Montegiorgi (Velletri, Italy) won the No. 1 doubles match 8-2. The team of Konstantin Zhukov (Kazan, Russia) and Samuel Walendowsky (Brusque, Brazil ) earned the second win of the day at the No. 2 position 8-3. In the No. 3 spot, Salikh Gilmutdinov (Kazan, Russia) and Austin Woody (Midland, Mich. / Dow) finished 8-3 for the third victory.
The winning continued as the Timberwolves swept singles in straight sets at all six positions. Menard dropped just a single game at the top spot 6-1, 6-0. Zhukov is now 6-3 at the No. 4 position with a 6-3, 6-0 win. Felipe Crema Batistella (São José dos Campos, Brazil) earned a 6-1, 6-3 win in his eight match of the season.
Northwood returns to action tomorrow (March 30), hosting the Huskies of Michigan Tech at 10 a.m.
