Men's Tennis Sweep Lake Erie 9-0
MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's tennis swept Lake Erie 9-0 Thursday afternoon (April 10).
The Timberwolves are now 10-3 overall, 6-1 in the GLIAC. The Storm falls to 0-12 on the season, 0-11 in the GLIAC.
NU dropped just a single game in doubles competition, with the freshmen team of Salikh Gilmutdinov (Kazan, Russia) and Austin Woody (Midland, Mich. / Dow) earning an 8-0 win at the No. 3 spot. Jean Menard (Amboise, France) and Lorenzo Montegiorgi (Velletri, Italy) also tallied an 8-0 victory at the No. 1 position improving to 11-2 on the season.
The Timberwolves continued to dominate in singles with three players winning in straight sets. Gilmutdinov improved to 2-0 at the No. 1 spot, while Freshman Felipe Crema Batistella (São José dos Campos, Brazil) and Sophomore Samuel Walendowsky (Brusque, Brazil) also earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions, respectively. Sophomore Konstantin Zhukov (Kazan, Russia) is also now 2-0 at the No. 2 spot with a 6-3, 6-1 win, while Woody earned his second win in the No. 3 position 6-3, 6-2. Freshman Pau Martin-Sole (Barcelona, Spain) dropped just a single game in his first match at the No. 5 spot.
Northwood will host Walsh Friday (April 11), Malone on Saturday (April 12) and Lake Erie on Sunday (April 13). Match times are set for 1 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
