Men's Tennis Defeats Indianapolis 5-2

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's tennis team picked up an big regional win over Indianapolis Sunday morning (March 1), defeating the Greyhounds 5-2.

Northwood, who is currently ranked No. 26 in the latest ITA national rankings, improves to 4-0 overall. Indianapolis, ranked No. 26, falls to 5-2.

The key to the match proved to be Northwood's doubles play, as the Timberwolves came out strong with three wins. Austin Woody and Sebastian Equez picked up an 8-5 win at the No. 1 slot, while the duos of Henrik Hellbe/Konstantin Zhukov and Felipe Crema Bastistella/Salikh Gilmutdino each won by a score of 8-3 at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively.

The Greyhounds played better in singles, splitting the four matches completed. But Northwood needed just two wins to clinch the match and did so thanks to wins from Equez and Zhukov at the No. 1 and No. 4 positions. The contests at the fifth and sixth flights did not take place because the overall team score had been decided.

Northwood will begin its Florida trip Sunday (March 8) with a neutral site match against Aquinas in Kissimmee, Florida.
