Men's Tennis Defeats Findlay 5-1 In GLIAC Tournament Opener
MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's tennis team advanced to the GLIAC Tournament Semifinals with a 5-1 win over Findlay Friday night (April 24).
The match was the opener of the GLIAC Tournament. Northwood, the No. 3 seed in the event, is now 13-4 overall. Findlay, the No. 6 seed, falls to 9-8 overall.
The event is being held at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.
It was the depth in the Northwood lineup that proved to be the key to the win. Northwood took a 2-1 lead after doubles, thanks to wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
In singles, the bottom of the Northwood lineup came through for the Timberwolves. NU earned straight-set wins at four, five and six singles to clinch the match.
On the day, Konstantin Zhukov, Felipe Crema Batistella and Tanini Kader all went 2-0 for the Timberwolves.
Northwood will now play second-seeded Grand Valley State Saturday afternoon (April 24). That match begins at 3:45 p.m.
