Men's Tennis Falls To Grand Valley State 5-1 In The NCAA Tournament

DETROIT, MICH. – The Northwood University men's tennis team saw its 2015 season come to an end with a 5-1 loss to Grand Valley State in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament Saturday afternoon (May 2).

GVSU, the No. 7 seed in the Midwest Region, improves to 17-5 with the win. No. 2 seed Northwood ends up at 15-5.

The Lakers opened the day by winning the first two doubles matches to go up 2-0. Northwood cut the margin down to 2-1 thanks to an 8-6 win by Sebastian Eguez and Austin Woody at the No. 1 position.

The singles matches were balanced, with both teams winning the first set in three of the six matches. But the Lakers closed out all three of the matches they won the first set in to close out the match. The Timberwolves were close to winning the No. 2 and No. 4 matches when the contest was stopped, leading 6-4, 5-0 at No. 2 and 7-6, 4-1 at No. 4.

The Lakers will now advance to take on third-seeded Indianapolis Sunday (May 3). Match time is set for Noon.
