Track Teams Compete At Hillsdale Wide Track Classic
The Northwood University track and field teams took part in the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic Friday and Saturday (February 7-8).
No team scoring was taken at the event, which was held at the new Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center on the campus of Hillsdale College.
On the men's side, Enock Rono (Eldoret, Kenya/Universal) claimed the victory in the championship 800 meter run with a time of 1:54.70. That time beat out 19 other competitors and earned Rono an NCAA provisional time. Wally Clay (Grand Blanc, Mich./Flint Southwestern) earned a fifth place finish out of 49 competitors in the 200 meter dash, clocking a 22.43. Mike Ankoviak (West Bloomfield, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) also took home a top-10 finish in the event with a time of 22.77. Brian Grecu (Ovid, Mich./Ovid-Elsie) was eighth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:00.54.
Madison Pines (Troy, Mich.) led the way for the women's team, posting an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the mile run. She clocked a 5:03.62 in the championship flight of the event, which was the top time among runners from collegiate teams. Pines also places seventh in the 800 meter championship event with a time of 2:19.11. Danielle Miller (Clinton Twp, Mich./Fraser) also earned a NCAA provisional mark in the 3,000 with a time of 10:02.69, placing sixth in the championship 3,000 meter run. Jennifer McKenna (Orchard Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) was second in the regular 800 run with a time of 2:25.17, while Brittany Robichaud (Monroe, Mich.) clocked a 2:28.37 to place sixth.
Northwood will travel to the GVSU Big Meet February 14-15.
