Timberwolves Track & Field Has a Day at Grand Valley St.

OVERVIEW MEET: Bob Eubanks Open

LOCATION: Allendale, Michigan – Grand Valley St.

RECAP: The Northwood Timberwolves track & field teams returned to action this weekend with a strong showing at the Bob Eubanks Open hosted by Grand Valley State (January 15).

INSIDE THE MEET – MEN

  • Northwood had two athletes break the previous school record in the mile event to place five runners in the top 10.
  • Dillan Haviland took gold and set the new school record in the mile, finishing at 4:09.53. His teammate, Trestin Mancillas-Finnerty, held the previous record at 4:13.18 he set in 2020. Haviland was one of only two athletes to hit the NCAA provisional mark in the mile event.
  • Mancillas-Finnerty also broke his previous school record while taking third in the mile with a time of 4:11.10.
  • Stephen Barker moved into fifth place in school history with his 4:15.13, third-place finish in the mile. 
  • Northwood flexed their muscles during the mile event. NU also had eighth and 10th place finishes by Josh Jones (4:21.48) and Josiah Morse (4:22.70). 
  • Zechariah Stickler continues to show his big-shot ability, finishing third in the shot-put invite. Stickler threw 16.87 and 16.97 meters respectfully in his two measured throws. Stickler cleared the NCAA provisional mark of 16.38 meters.
  • Nathan Powers placed third in the weight throw invite. His furthest throw measured in at 18.43 meters. Both Powers brothers each cleared the NCAA provisional mark of 17.84.
  • Dylan Powers set a new personal best in the weight throw that is the fourth-best in school history. Powers finished fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 17.89 meters.
  • Northwood had a pair of freshmen in the top 25 of the men's 200m. Thomas Heslip took 20th, clocking a 23.70. Fellow freshman Benjamin Beaulieu crossed the line just behind him at 23.83 in 24th.
  • Heslip made a name for himself in the 400, finishing at 51.98 in fourth place to give Northwood another top-5 finish.   

INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN

  • Jessica Kursinsky placed second in the invite shot put with tosses of 13.32 and 13.55 meters.
  • Isabel Anderson cleared 1.50 meters during the high jump, giving her a ninth place finish.
  • Avery Stadt placed sixteenth respectfully in the mile, crossing the finish in 5:28.16.
  • Lainey Veenkant finished just behind Stadt in the mile, finishing 17th with a time of 5:30.14.
  • Emily Coulter had a 9.72-meter toss to finish the shot put events.

  • The Timberwolves track & field teams are going to be back at GVSU next Saturday, January 22, to compete at the Mike Lints Alumni Open.
