Track & Field Shows Out At The GLIAC Indoor Championships
OVERVIEW
MEET: GLIAC Indoor Championships
LOCATION: Allendale, Mich. – Grand Valley St.
DAY ONE RECAP: The Timberwolves Track & Field teams were back on the track for day one of the GLIAC Indoor Championships (February 26). Northwood throwers brought home big point totals and gold for the Timberwolves, while multiple other athletes also brought home podium finishes. Northwood's men currently sit in second in the men's team standings with 39 points. Northwood's women currently sit in sixth with 9 points in the women's standings.
INSIDE THE MEET – MEN
- Nathan Powers won the GLIAC Indoor Championship in the weight throw event by posting a new school record at 20.29m. This throw was good enough for the third-best throw across DII this season.
- Dylan Powers scored three points for the Timberwolves by hitting the provisional mark and setting a new personal best at 18.66m in the weight throw.
- The Northwood men's DMR team took silver at 9:55.78. The DMR team consisted of Stephen Barker, freshman Josh Jones, Dillan Haviland, and Trestin Mancillas-Finnerty.
- Zane Aldrich got the Timberwolves a point in the 5K with a 14:48.03 eighth place finish.
- Brandon Boyd moved into fifth in school history with his first sub fifteen 5K. Boyd finished just behind Aldrich at 14:54.44.
- The long jump trio of Xzavia Price (6.89m, Bronze), Jon Kelm (6.62m), and Jordan Taiwo (6.21m) scored 12 points for NU.
- Price also qualified for 200m and 60m finals tomorrow.
- Taiwo sits in fourth with 2395 points after four events of the heptathlon.
- Thomas Heslip set a personal best in the 400m at 50.17 to send him to tomorrow's 400m finals.
- Ben Beaulieu qualified himself for the 60m hurdle finals.
INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN
- Taky Ezell took silver in the weight throw by shattering her previous best in the weight throw with a 19.28m toss. Her toss cleared the provisional mark and moved to 12th across DII this season.
- Debra Wallace ran a 7.88 60m dash that qualified her for tomorrow's finals. Wallace also qualified for the 200m finals with a time of 25.86.
DAY TWO RECAP: A day after Nathan Powers won the Indoor Championship for the weight throw. Northwood men earned second place in the team race with 116 points. The Coaching Staff was named Coaching Staff of The Year by the GLIAC. NU won two more events in the 4x400 and 60m. Northwood women finished seventh overall with 29 points.
INSIDE THE MEET – MEN
- Thomas Heslip, Josiah Morse, Josh Jones, and Stephen Barker got the win at 3:18.52 in the 4x400m relay.
- Xzavia Price was crowned Champion in the 60m, running a blazing 6.84 time. This was Price's second event he has won a championship in his career (2021 GLIAC Indoor Long Jump Champion). Price also finished sixth in the 200m (22.33).
- Dillan Haviland placed third in the mile at 4:09.93. Haviland earned podium finishes in both the DMR and mile events.
- Stephen Barker earned six points and a third place finish in the 800m (1:50.48). Northwood had three top-6 finishers in Josh Jones (1:51.91) and Josiah Morse (1:52.64). All Northwood 800m runners earned provisional marks.
- Jon Kelm was named freshman field athlete of the meet by the GLIAC. Kelm placed second in the triple jump (13.43m-PR), seventh in the high jump (1.86m-PR), and fifth in the long jump (6.62m-PR)
- Northwood had two top-5 finishers in the shot put. Will Nemecek and Zechariah Stickler placed fourth and fifth at 16.78m. This was personal best for Nemecek, throwing .78m further than the previous mark. Their tosses both met the provisional mark.
- Jordan Taiwo finished third in the heptathlon with a monster 16-second personal best in the 1000m (3:02.72).

INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN
- Jessica Kursinsky set a new personal best and placed second in the shot put. Her 14.44m NCAA provisional beating throw moves her into second place on the indoor shot put program record.
- Debra Wallace earned five points for the women as she placed fourth at 7.89 in the 60m.
- Katherine Wozniak set a personal best to move into #10 in school history in the women's 3k (10:50.69).
- Alexis Kaanta earned a top-5 finish in the triple jump (10.61m). His mark was over a foot further than her previous best to put her third in school history
