Cross Country Teams Finish Season At NCAA Regional Championship

The Northwood University cross country teams wrapped up their 2012 season at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championship Saturday (November 3).

The event was hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside at the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course.

The women's team showed dramatic improvement this season, placing seventh out of 23 schools with 193 points.  The previous season, the women's program placed 19th in the same event.  The Timberwolves placed three runners in the top 30 overall, led by Danielle Miller (Clinton Twp., Mich./Fraser).  She placed 22nd overall with a time of 22:04.  Lauren Gagnon (Waterford, Mich./Mott) placed 25th overall, clocking a 22:12.  Madison Pines (Troy, Mich.), who had spent the entire fall season competing with the women's soccer team, made her cross country debut with a strong performance.  She finished 26th overall, just behind Gagnon at 22:13.  A total of 158 runners took part in the event.

On the men's side, Northwood placed 20th overall with 512 points.  Freshman Enock Rono (Eldoret, Kenya) was the Timberwolves' top finisher, placing 46th overall with a time of 32:18.  Fellow freshman Silas Dekalita (Clio, Mich.) clocked a 33:14 to finish 91st.

Grand Valley State was the overall winner on both the men's and women's side.
