Cross Country Teams Compete At GLIAC Championships
MILFORD, MICH. – The Northwood University cross country teams competed in the GLIAC Cross Country Championships at Kensington Metropark in Milford, Mich. on Saturday morning (October 24).
The women's team was the opening event of the day. Grand Valley State won the event with a team score of 30 claiming their 16th straight conference title. Northwood finished 12th overall with 359 points. The Timberwolves were 14th last year with 396 points. Leading the Timberwolves to finish 37th overall was senior Jenny Frantz (Ovid, Mich./Ovid-Elsie) with a time of 23:31.4. Junior Jennifer Mckenna (Orchard Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) took 66th after clocking 24:21.7, while senior Chloe Theil (Plainwell, Mich./Plainwell) ran a time of 24:59.2. Also competing for the Timberwolves were sophomore Emily Murdoch (Dewitt, Mich.) at 26:17.5, junior Julia Cherwinski (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) at 26:28.9 and sophomore Jacqueline Reneaud (Goodrich, Mich.) with a time of 27:48.9. There were a total of 140 runners and 16 teams competing in this year's women's GLIAC Championship.
GVSU also earned the victory on the men's side with a team score of 24. It is the 14th straight GLIAC Championship for the Lakers. Northwood placed 15th in the men's race with a score of 415. Will Moench (Holland, Mich./West Ottawa) led the way for Northwood clocking 26:25.0 for a 64th place finish. Junior Tyler Jenson (Ovid, Mich./Ovid-Elsie) finished 97th with a time of 27:09.4, while freshman Josh Plishke (Arlington Heights, Ill. / Hersey) ran 27:25.3. Also competing for NU were senior Matthew Dippel (Kentwood, Mich./Kentwood) at 27:27.4, senior Michael Todd (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) at 27:41.2, freshman Caleb Barker (Westphalia, Mich. / Pewamo Westphalia) clocking 28:14.3, junior Tyler Harris (Sebewaing, Mich. / Union Sebewaing) at 28:53.7 and senior Nick Kaufmann (Hemlock, Mich.) with a time of 29:11.5. There were a total of 145 runners and 15 teams competing in this years' men's GLIAC Championship.
