Softball Sweeps Lake Superior State

The Northwood University softball team swept a doubleheader against Lake Superior State Sunday afternoon (April 21).  The Timberwolves won game one 8-1 before posting a 3-1 victory in game two.

The Timberwolves are now 23-14 overall, 13-5 in the GLIAC.  NU is now tied for second place in the GLIAC.  Lake Superior State stands at 7-16 overall, 5-15 in the GLIAC.

Game one was scoreless heading into the bottom of the fifth inning when the Lakers plated a single run to go on top. But that is when the Northwood offense got going.  The Timberwolves scored three runs in the sixth and five runs in the seventh to earn the win.  Stacey Klonowski (Canton, Mich. /Plymouth), Rachel Hammer (Commerce, Mich./Lakeland), Sam Zaborowski (Taylor, Mich./Cabrini) and Marisa Borkowski (Sterling Heights, Mich./Stevenson) all had two hits to lead the Northwood offense.  Borkowski and Jessica Lie (Rochester, Mich./Stoney Creek) each had a pair of RBI's as well.  Maddison Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Western) tossed a complete game, allowing no earned runs on five hits.

Northwood got the scoring going in game two on a Jessica Tostrud (Kenosha, Wisc./Mary D. Bradford) double that plated Klonowski.  The Lakers then tied the game in the fifth with a single run.  NU responded with the key rally in the bottom of the sixth inning, thanks to RBI's by Zaborowski and Lyndsey Look (Pinconning, Mich.).  Catie Kaliszuk (Tecumseh, Mich.) and Sebald combined to allow one run on five hits in the circle.  Sebald took her second win of the day to improve to 13-4 overall on the season.

Northwood will travel to Ferris State for a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon (April 23).  First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
