Softball Splits Pair At Alabama Huntsville Chillout

The Northwood University softball team split a pair of games at the Alabama Huntsville Chillout Sunday afternoon (February 9). The Timberwolves dropped a 3-1 contest to Union before downing Kentucky Wesleyan 10-0 in five innings.

Northwood finishes the event 3-3 overall.

Union got a run in the top of the first inning of game one to take the early lead.  Northwood responded in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI bunt single by Andria Gietl (Plymouth, Mich./Ladywood). But Union scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to earn the win. Northwood managed five hits in the game and one double by Jessica Tostrud (Kenosha, Wisc./Mary D. Bradford) in the game. Maddison Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Western) took the loss in the circle, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out five.

After scoreless first inning against Kentucky Wesleyan, the Northwood offense got going. NU plated one in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth and six in the fifth to put the game away. Northwood finished the game with 17 hits. Five different Timberwolves had an extra base hit in the contest. Britney Merner (Solon, Ohio), Natalie Lampman (Madison Heights, Mich./Bishop Foley) and Sam Zaborowski (Taylor, Mich./Cabrini) each finished the game 3-3 to lead the way. Casey Brown (Hudson, Ohio) earned her second win on the season by allowing three hits in five shutout innings, striking out six.

Northwood will travel to Southern Indiana February 22-23. NU will play Illinois-Springfield and Missouri S&T on day one of the event.
