Softball Splits Pair At NTC Softball Complex

The Northwood University softball team split a pair of games in Florida Tuesday afternoon (March 11). The Timberwolves defeated Urbana 9-4 before falling to Assumption 4-1.

Northwood is now 7-5 overall on the season. Both games took place at the NTC Softball Complex in Clermont, Fla.

NORTHWOOD 9, URBANA 4

Urbana jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in top of the first before Hayley D'Avilar's (Georgetown, ON / Christ the King) RBI single. Lindsay Obremski (DuBois, Pa./Dubois Area) quickly knocked D'Avilar in on a two-run homerun. The Timberwolves led 3-2 after one inning. In the fourth, Ashley Lynn (Garden City, Mich.) recorded an RBI single that scored Malinda Smith (Saginaw, Mich. / Swan Valley). Sam Zaborowski (Taylor, Mich./Cabrini) earned an RBI of her own on a double to center field. With Zaborowski on second base, Stacey Klonowski (Plymouth, Mich./Canton) hit the ball out of the park for her second homerun in two games. After the Blue Knights cut the lead at 7-3 in the fifth, D'Avilar laid down a sacrifice bunt to plate Jessica Tostrud (Kenosha, Wisc. / Mary D. Bradford). Obremski then earned her second RBI of the game scoring Smith.

Obremski finished with three RBI's, while D'Avilar and Klonowski each added two. Lynn had two hits and two runs scored. Maddison Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Western) improves to 4-2 on the season.

ASSUMPTION 4, NORTHWOOD 1

Northwood's Natalie Lampman (Madison Heights, Mich. / Bishop Foley) put the Timberwolves ahead in the second in convincing fashion with her second homerun of the season. Four runs in the bottom of the sixth proved to be too many for NU. For the game, Vanessa Ewing (Dundee, Mich.) struck out eight batters in six innings pitched.

Northwood will play Wayne State (Neb.) on Thursday (March 13) at 11 a.m. before competing against American International at 1 p.m.
