Softball Picks Up Two Wins In Florida
The Northwood University softball team picked up two wins in Florida Thursday afternoon (March 13). The Timberwolves downed Wayne State College 6-3 before topping American Int'l 7-3.
Northwood is now 9-5 overall on the season. Both games took place at the NTC Softball Complex in Clermont, Fla.
NORTHWOOD 6, WAYNE STATE COLLEGE 3
The Timberwolves jumped out 4-0 on back-to-back hits from Andria Gietl (Plymouth, Mich. / Ladywood) and Natalie Lampman (Madison Heights, Mich. / Bishop Foley). In the third, Stacey Klonowski (Canton, Mich. / Plymouth) plated Kelsey Beck (Pinconning, Mich.) on a sacrifice bunt. The Timberwolves kept a 5-0 lead into the sixth, when Lampman led off with a double up the middle. Brittany Merner (Solon, Ohio) scored Lampman, earning her fourth RBI of the season on a single to center field. Sam Zaborowski (Taylor, Mich./Cabrini) and Lampman each finished the game with two hits. Casey Brown (Hudson, Ohio) struck out 10 wildcats in five and two thirds innings pitched, improving to 3-2 on the season with the win.
NORTHWOOD 7, AMERICAN INT'L 3
NU continued their trend of scoring early, plating three runs in the first inning. After Hayley D'Avilar (Georgetown, ON / Christ the King) and Lindsay Obremski (DuBois, Pa./Dubois Area) walked, Zaborowski earned her 11th RBI of the season plating D'Avilar on a single to left field. Lampman followed with her own single to left to plate both Obremski and Zaborowski for a pair of RBI's. The Yellow Jackets responded in the fourth with two runs of their own. NU plated three runs in the sixth to put the game away. D'Avilar led off the inning with a walk and quickly advanced to third on an error. She then successfully stole home to put the Timberwolves ahead 5-2. After Zaborowski's double to center field, Obremski scored on a wild pitch. Klonowski walked to first and stole second, only to advance to third and score Zaborowski on a throwing error for the final NU run of the game.
For the game, Zaborowski and Lampman again each had two hits, while Lampman added two RBI's. Lauren Look (Pinconning, Mich. / Cleveland State) went 3-3 with an RBI for the game. Maddison Sebald (Bay City, Mich./Western) allowed just five hits against 29 batters faced. Sebald struck out seven while allowing zero earned runs in seven innings of work and improves to 5-2 on the season.
Northwood will play their final two games in Florida Friday (March 14). The Timberwolves will face Bentley at 9 a.m. and West Chester at 1.m.
