Northwood Softball Announces 2024 Schedule
MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood softball team announced its 2024 season schedule Wednesday afternoon (January 17). 2024 marks Northwood's 41st season of softball in Midland.
The schedule includes 54 games with trips to Smyrna, Tenn., Evansville, Ind., and Kissimmee, Fla. They will be road-tested with the first 30 matchups slated away from Midland.
Softball opens the season on February 16 in Smyrna, Tenn. with the Music City Invitational where they battle with Ferris St. and Indianapolis on Saturday followed by Ill.-Springfield and Davenport on Sunday (February 17) to finish the first weekend trip.
Following their first weekend of action, the Timberwolves travel to Evansville, Ind. for the Blue Bridge Classic hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan. This trip includes doubleheaders against Indianapolis and Drury (February 23), McKendree and Ala.-Huntsville (February 24), and Mo.-St. Louis and Davenport (February 25).
Softball finishes its southern swing with its annual spring break trip to Florida which includes 12 games beginning March 7-13.
Beginning March 29, the Timberwolves are back home to host six doubleheaders against in-region competition between the 29th and April 9. This includes bouts with 2023 DII National Runner-Up Grand Valley St. on April 3 and G-MAC newcomer Thomas More on April 6. "We always want to schedule tough matchups," said Head Coach Gregg Suave. "It prepares us for big moments late in the season and gets us battle-tested."
The Timberwolves bring back a core of key returners including 2023 First Team All-G-MAC selection Ashley Ziel and Second Team selection Jillian Krawczak. Associate Head Coach Brittany Horan is, "excited to see the development of our young players, " including, "how they mesh with the experience they already have on our roster." Other key players include Delanie Gale, Ashlyn Lundquist, Madison Jordan, Brynn Polega, and Gianna Fantin.
Last season, the Timberwolves finished 34-24 overall and 15-9 in the G-MAC. Moving into the 41st season, NU's overall record sits at 897-897-5, just three shy of the 900 mark.
The 2024 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship will be held May 1-4 at Firestone Stadium, located in Akron, Ohio. The 2024 edition will mark the 11th annual G-MAC Softball Championship. The tournament will feature the top eight teams based on win percentage in a double-elimination bracket.
