Moving On - Softball Moves On To Round Two Of G-MAC Tournament With 5-2 Win Over No. 5 Findlay

RECAP:  Northwood softball began their postseason push Wednesday (May 1) during the first round of the G-MAC Tournament. The Timberwolves battled the 5th-seeded Findlay Oilers to open the tournament. Northwood prevailed with a 5-2 win to advance to the second round.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Tournament jitters showed early, as the Oilers pushed a run across in the opening inning with a two-out single to center, 1-0 NU.
  • Northwood answered back at the bottom of the first. Delanie Gale knocked home NU's first run with an RBi groundout with the bases loaded, 1-1.
  • Both pitchers settled in as teams went scoreless until the fourth when Ashlyn Lundquist tripled to right center to bring home Gabby Schloop from first, 2-1 NU.
  • Ashley Ziel followed Lundquist with a single to center, extending NU's lead to 3-1.
  • A solo homer from Findlay brought the Oilers back within one in the sixth, 3-2 NU.
  • NU's offense looked to respond as Schloop led off the sixth with a walk before Ziel played a long ball to give the Timberwolves a three-run cushion. Ziel's two-run shot to left center was her fifth home run of the season, 5-2 NU.
  • Emily Cox finished the seventh, getting the final three to secure her 16th win of the year.
