Kelm, Morrison, and Tesch Qualify For NCAA Championships For Track & Field

MIDLAND, MICH. – Northwood University Track & Field is set to send three athletes to the 2024 NCAA DII Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The championships run from Thursday, May 23 to Saturday, May 25 at Welch Stadium in Emporia, Kansas, hosted by Emporia State.

MEET THE ATHLETES

Jon Kelm (men's long jump) and Sebastian Tesch (men's hammer throw) both qualified in the field events as Matheu Morrison qualified for the men's 110m hurdles. This is the first NCAA Championship appearance for both Kelm and Morrison.

Kelm earned the selection with a 7.69m leap, making him the 2024 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Outdoor Long Jump Champion (May 3). 7.69m is a new NU program record and makes him the No. 8 seed ahead of this year's championships.

Tesch's etched his name in Northwood stone this year. He broke the program record for the hammer throw with a 64.13m toss at the Raleigh Relays (March 28) before breaking his mark twice more with a 67.71m launch at the G-MAC Championships (May 1). 67.71m is 5.2m further than anyone in Northwood history and makes him the No. 5 seed ahead of NCAAs.

Morrison was the Timberwolves' final qualifier. Morrison ran a sub-14 110m hurdles race at the Len Paddock Open (April 27). His 13.98 finish is No. 15 in DII this season and makes him the No. 15 seed going into the meet.

A total of 377 student-athletes per gender will qualify based on regular-season performances. The complete list of qualifiers is available HERE. The championships will be streamed live on www.NCAA.com
