Track & Field Opens 2025 At SVSU Classic Friday

LOCATION: Saginaw Valley St. – University Center, Mich.
RECAP: Northwood men's and women's track & field returned to action Friday (January 17) for the SVSU Classic at Saginaw Valley St.
INSIDE THE MEET
FOR THE MEN
- Owen Hager hurdled his way onto Northwood's top-10 list for the 60-meter hurdles. His time of 8.55 was the 10th best in program history and is a new personal record.
- Diogo Vaz ran Northwood's only sub-7, 60-meter dash, taking sixth in his preliminary heat at 6.96. He was the Timberwolves' lone qualifier for the finals, where he later took sixth, finishing in 7.00 flat.
- Vaz also placed eighth in the 200m race with a 22.26 finish. Arthur Powell IV was Northwood's second runner to place in the top 10, taking 10th in 200m with a 22.4 finish. Vaz's mark is sixth best in the G-MAC this season.
- Michael Cook and Owhin Thompson competed for the blue and white in the 400m. Cook earned fourth and Thompson ninth with 50.03 and 51.80 finishes. Both racers set new personal records (PR).
- Caleb Palmreuter, Lucas Oberle, and Keegan Masters led the charge for the Timberwolves in the mile. Palmreuter (4:17.21), Oberle (4:21.46), and Masters (4:23.57) placed third, sixth, and eighth overall.
- Kyle Roeters competed in his first high jump competition. His 1.80m mark is just off Northwood's all-time top ten list, but he earned a fourth place finish.
- Jordan Taiwo's 6.57m leap in the long jump gave him a second place finish as well as a new PR.
FOR THE WOMEN
- Ariel Warner took the top podium spot with a 2:18.27 finish in the women's 800m. Teammate, Kaylee Locke took fifth, finishing in 2:26.83. Warner's 2:18.27 is seventh best in the G-MAC this season.
- Freshman Abby Hasenfratz took home her first career win with a 14.43m toss in the women's weight throw. Her PR is now eighth-best in program history.
- Northwood had a great day in the women's long jump with two Program List marks. Breanna Hyde improved her historical Northwood long jump mark to 5.26, seventh all-time. Teammate Dannyka Johnson moved in 10th with her 5m leap. Hyde took fourth and Johnson sixth with those marks. Hyde's mark ranks t-5th in the G-MAC this season.
- Keiyera Johnson took fifth overall in the 60m hurdles, finishing in 9.52.
- Sarah Zehr and Katherine Haupt earned NU two more top-ten finishes in the women's mile. Zehr (5:15.22) and Haupt (5:26.19) placed eighth and 10th overall. Zehr's mark ranks third in the G-MAC this season.
- Reina McMahon etched her name on NU's all-time women's high jump list. Her 1.42m leap is the 10th best in program history.
