Men Take Seventh, Women Eighth As Track & Field Compete At Competitive G-MAC Indoor Championships

OVERVIEW – 2026 G-MAC INDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

LOCATION: Ashland – Ashland, Ohio

RECAP: Northwood Track & Field competed at the 2026 G-MAC Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday (February 27-28) to close out February. Ashland dominated the meet, claiming both the men's (140 points) and women's (179.5 points) team titles. On the men's side, Tiffin finished in second with 133.5 points, while Findlay took third with 104 points. Northwood placed seventh with 47.5 points. For the women, Hillsdale secured second place with 157 points, and Findlay finished third with 118 points. Northwood rounded out the top ten in eighth place with 12 points.

INSIDE THE MEET 

FOR THE MEN

  • Northwood's distance relay squad of Caleb Palmreuter, Parker Strelecki, William Haw, and Matt Grindrod delivered one of the program's top performances at the event, earning a runner-up finish with a time of 9:55.23. The Timberwolves placed second behind Ashland (9:52.97), scoring eight team points. The foursome earned Second Team All-G-MAC with the top-two finish.
  • After Friday's 400-meter prelims, Diogo Vaz qualified for the finals with the fourth-fastest time of 48.05, an NCAA provisional mark and a new personal best just shy of the Northwood program record. Chase Burston also advanced with a 48.93 personal record (PR), the fifth-fastest time in program history. In Saturday's final, Vaz improved to 47.81, earning third place, six team points, and the No. 2 spot in program history. Burston added an eighth-place finish in 48.83, scoring one point for the Timberwolves.
  • Vaz later qualified for the 200m finals. In prelims, Vaz ran a 21.87 PR to sit seventh, while Arthur Powell IV posted 22.14, ranking 12th. In the final, Vaz finished sixth overall in 21.84, scoring three more team points.
  • Caleb Palmreuter led Northwood in the men's mile. The sophomore finished third overall for a podium finish, crossing the line with a 4:10.29 PR to score six team points.
  • Owen Hager scored for the Timberwolves in the loaded 60-m hurdle field. Hager substantially improved his PR in the prelims, clocking an 8.09 NCAA provisional mark, which is now No. 5 in program history. He later took eighth in the finals, securing a team point and finishing in 8.26.
  • Northwood added seven points in the men's 800 meters with strong finishes from Haw and Strelecki. Haw led the Timberwolves with a fourth-place finish, crossing in 1:52.57. Strelecki followed closely, taking seventh in 1:54.76.
  • Northwood added three points in the men's shot put. Max Stoecker led the Timberwolves, finishing seventh, throwing 15.68m. Nick Ball added to the team total with an eighth-place mark of 15.35m PR (No. 10 in NU history).

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Northwood earned a top finish in the women's long jump, led by Breanna Hyde. The junior took second place with a 5.56. Her finish was the highest finish, for a Timberwolf, of the meet on the women's side. Hyde earned Second Team All-Conference status with the finish.
  • Northwood women set a new school record in the 4x400m relay, finishing sixth with a time of 3:58.23 and earning three points. The relay team of Keiyera Johnson, Nava Sanocki, Brooklyn Wolcott, and Kaylee Locke finished out the meet for the Timberwolves.
  • In the women's 800 meters, Kaylee Locke. finished eighth overall with a PR of 2:16.83, adding one point to the Timberwolves' team total. She now holds the No. 5 mark in NU history for the event.
