Vier, Vaz, Hyde Lead Track & Field At Gina Relays With Strong Weekend Performances

OVERVIEW – GINA RELAYS

RECAP: The Northwood University men's and women's track & field teams competed at the Gina Relays (April 16–18) in Hillsdale, Mich., highlighted by another program record performance from Blake Vier.

INSIDE THE MEET – GINA RELAYS

FOR THE MEN

  • Blake Vier continued his outstanding season in the hurdles, advancing through prelims in the 110m hurdles with a 13.82 before winning the final in 13.59 PR. The 13.59 mark resets his program record and puts him atop the NCAA DII leaderboard this season. The finish is 14th-best all-time in DII and sets a new Great Midwest Athletic Conference record.
  • Diogo Vaz delivered a top performance on the track, placing third in the 400m with a PR of 47.50, ranking No. 47 in NCAA Division II this season. Chase Burston followed closely with a PR of his own at 48.37.
  • In the 400m hurdles, Noah Retford placed second overall with a PR of 54.80.
  • In the 800m, Caleb Palmreuter led the group with a 1:53.64, followed by Will Haw (1:55.52) and Nolan Longuski (1:58.36). Matt Grindrod added a 4:04.75 in the 1500m.
  • In distance events, Sam Smith earned a runner-up finish in the 5000m with a time of 14:49.37, while Keegan Masters posted a 15:23.78. Grindrod also placed third in the 3000m steeplechase, clocking 9:29.14, which ranks No. 75 in NCAA Division II.
  • In the field events, Luke Eros highlighted the throws with a third-place finish in the hammer at 61.30m. Omari Hairston recorded marks of 16.72m in the shot put and 44.74m in the discus, while Ty Ellis added a 50.11m discus throw and 16.72m shot put performance.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Breanna Hyde led the way in the jumps, placing fifth in the long jump with a PR mark of 5.74m, which ranks No. 40 in NCAA Division II this season. She also added a win in the triple jump with a mark of 10.72m and a prelim long jump of 5.68m.
  • In the sprints, Brooklyn Wolcott ran a 59.47 PR in the 400m, while Nava Sanocki posted 1:01.53.
  • In the 800m, Kaylee Locke clocked 2:18.08 in the championship section.
  • The 4x100m relay team of Sanocki, Dannyka Johnson, Keiyera Johnson, and Vivian Williams ran 51.20, while the 4x400m relay squad of Sanocki, Johnson, Wolcott, and Locke placed second in 4:02.70.
  • In the high jump, freshman Angela Porter moved up to No. 6 in program history, clearing 1.50m. She took tenth overall.
