Women's Basketball Falls At Findlay 78-66
The Northwood University women's basketball team dropped a 78-66 contest to Findlay Saturday afternoon (December 1).
Northwood is now 3-3 overall, 1-1 in the GLIAC. Findlay improves to 4-0 overall, 2-0 in the GLIAC.
The last five minute of both halves proved to be the key to the game. Northwood got off to a strong start early, leading 23-12 with 10 minutes remaining in the half. NU eventually led 30-24 with 4:50 remaining in the half when the Oilers went on a big run. Findlay scored 18 of the final 20 points of the half to take a 40-32 lead to the locker room. Northwood shot a high percentage than the Oilers (46.7-38.2) in the half, but Findlay out-scored Northwood 20-10 in points off turnovers and 8-2 in second chance points.
Northwood again was the better team at the start of the second half, scoring the first eight points to tie the game 40-40. The game remained close once again until the final minutes of the game when Findlay took over. NU led 61-60 with 6:31 to go, but the Oilers out-scored Northwood 18-5 the rest of the way to earn the win.
For the game, Northwood shot 46.3 percent from the floor (25-54). NU also went 6-17 from 3-point range (35.3 percent) and 10-13 from the foul line (76.9 percent). Findlay finished at 43.8 percent overall (28-64). The Oilers out-rebounded Northwood 38-30 for the game and held a 17-10 edge in offensive boards.
Aleigha Wylie (Hemlock, Mich./Midland) and Sarah Spring (Brighton, Mich.) led the way for the Timberwolves. Wylie finished with 14 points and seven rebounds, while Spring added 14 points, 5 rebounds and five assists. Gabrielle Rivette (Fenton, Mich.) had 11 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Rachel Church (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek) added 12 points.
Northwood will host Walsh Thursday night (December 6). Game time is set for 8 p.m.
