Women's Basketball Drops 82-69 Contest To UMSL
The Northwood University women's basketball team dropped an 82-69 contest to UMSL Saturday afternoon (December 29).
Northwood falls to 6-6 overall with the loss. UMSL improves to 5-4 with the win.
The Timberwolves had a five point lead early in the first half, but UMSL controlled the play the rest of the opening 20 minutes. The Tritons led by as many as 16 in the half before taking a 50-37 lead to the locker room. UMSL's shooting was the key to their lead, as the Tritons finished at 54.5 percent from the floor (18-33) and 60.0 percent from 3-point range (3-5).
Northwood fought back in the second half, getting the lead all the way down to four points with 4:55 remaining in the game. But UMSL used numerous second chance opportunities down the stretch to put the game away.
For the game, UMSL finished at 51.9 percent overall (28-54), compared to 36.1 percent for Northwood (26-72). UMSL also finished at 54.5 percent from 3-point range (6-11).
Four Timberwolves finished in double figures, led by Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) with 16. Jordyn Nurenberg (St. Johns, Mich.) registered her first career double-double, finishing with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Gabrielle Rivette (Fenton, Mich.) finished with 11 points and five rebounds, while Aleigha Wylie (Hemlock, Mich./Midland) added 10 points.
Northwood will return to action January 3 against Tiffin. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
