Women's Basketball Loses At Ferris State 69-57

The Northwood University women's basketball team dropped a 69-57 contest at Ferris State Thursday night (February 14).

Northwood falls to 11-13 overall, 9-9 in the GLIAC.  Ferris State improves to 12-9 overall, 11-7 in the GLIAC.

The opening half was close throughout – there were seven ties and seven lead changes in the opening 20 minutes.  Neither team led by more than four points.  A late layup by the Bulldogs gave them a 26-24 lead at the break.  Northwood shot just 27.6 percent from the floor (8-29) compared to FSU at 45.5 percent (10-22), but FSU committed five more turnovers in the half. 

FSU led 44-43 with 11:58 remaining it the game when the Bulldogs went on the key run of the contest. Ferris State scored seven straight points and eventually would put up 21 of the next 29 points to go up 65-51 with 4:49 remaining and put the game away. 

For the game, Northwood finished at 34.5 percent (19-55).  The Timberwolves connected on 5-22 from beyond the arc (22.7 percent) and 14-20 from the foul line (70.0 percent).  Ferris State finished at 46.3 percent (25-54) overall, 26.3 percent from 3-point range (5-19) and 14-15 from the foul line (93.3 percent).  The 3-point line was key for the Bulldogs second half run – after missing all seven of their attempts in the first half, FSU went 5-12 from beyond the arc after halftime (41.7 percent).

Rachel Church (Midland, Mich./Bullock Creek) led Northwood in scoring, finishing with 16.  Aleigha Wylie (Hemlock, Mich./Midland) went 5-6 from the floor en route to scoring 12 points.

Northwood will host Grand Valley State Saturday night (February 14).  Game time is set for 6 p.m.
