Women's Basketball Loses At Michigan Tech 70-57
The Northwood University women's basketball team dropped a 70-57 contest at Michigan Tech Thursday night (February 21).
Northwood is now 11-15 overall, 9-11 in the GLIAC. Michigan Tech improves to 17-7 overall, 15-5 in the GLIAC.
The opening half of the game was extremely close – neither team led by more than three points in the opening 20 minutes. MTU eventually took a 24-23 lead to the locker room. Neither team shot well in the opening half. NU finished at 30.8 percent (8-26) while Michigan Tech finished at 29.6 percent (8-27).
The score was tied 32-32 at the first media timeout of the second half when the Huskies went big run to put the game away. At the second media timeout, Michigan Tech led 51-33. The run for MTU eventually reached 21-1. Northwood got down as many as 20, but fought back to trail by nine with less than three minutes to go. MTU's Sam Hoyt responded by knocking down a triple as the shot clock expired to make the lead 12 and put the game away.
For the game, Northwood shot 35.7 percent (20-56) while MTU finished at 38.2 percent (21-55). The 3-point line was the key to the game, as Michigan Tech shot 7-12 overall (58.3 percent) while Northwood finished at 1-12 (8.3 percent).
Freshman Jordyn Nurenberg (St. John's, Mich.) led Northwood with 18 points off the bench. She was 6-10 from the floor and 6-8 from the foul line. Kaitlin Susan (Grand Rapids, Mich./Byron Center) added 12 points.
Northwood will travel to Northern Michigan Saturday (February 21). Game time is set for 3 p.m.
