Women's Basketball Loses At Northern Michigan 74-62
The Northwood University women's basketball team dropped a 74-62 contest at Northern Michigan Saturday (February 1).
Northwood falls to 10-8 overall, 9-6 in the GLIAC. NMU improves to 12-6 overall, 9-5 in the GLIAC.
The Wildcats scored on their first possession of the game and led for nearly the entire first half. Northwood trailed by as many as eight but a late layup allowed the Timberwolves to tie the game at 31-31 at the break. NU stayed in the game despite shooting 26.7 percent from the floor (8-30) thanks to converting 12 more free throws than the Wildcats.
NMU turned the table on the foul line in the second half, which proved to be the key to the game. The Wildcat made 19 free throws in the second half while the Timberwolves connected on 12. NU's struggles from the floor continued in the second half, as Northwood made just 8-31 attempts after the break.
For the game, the Timberwolves finished at 26.2 percent overall (16-61). NMU connected on 37.1 percent (23-62). The Wildcats made three more triples than Northwood, while the Timberwolves made five more free throws.
Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) led Northwood in scoring, finishing with 16 points. Gabrielle Rivette (Fenton, Mich.) added 15 points and five rebounds, while freshman Emily Kutch (Freeport, Mich./Lakeview) added 12 points and seven rebounds.
Northwood will host Saginaw Valley State Monday night (February 3). Game time is set for 6 p.m.
