Women's Basketball Earns Comeback 78-74 Win At Ashland

RECAP: Led by Maeve St. John, the Northwood Women's Basketball team overcomes 21-point first half deficit to earn a 78-74 road win at Ashland Saturday afternoon (December 6).
GAME STORY
- Ashland scored the first two points of the game and did not allow Northwood to gain a lead until late in the fourth quarter.
- The Eagles started strong overall, scoring 12 of the first 16 points of the contest.
- AU eventually held a 27-14 lead after the opening quarter.
- With just over three minutes remaining in the half, Ashland held its biggest lead of the day, maintaining a 40-19 lead.
- That is when a key stretch of the contest occurred, as Northwood out-scored Ashland 12-0 over the final three minutes of the second to make the score 40-31 at the break.
- The Eagles led 56-46 with 3:00 remaining in the third when another Timberwolves run set up the fourth quarter, as NU scored eight straight points to get within two.
- AU held a 58-54 lead heading to the final period.
- Ashland led 63-56 with eight minutes remaining when Northwood made the final run that clinched the comeback victory. Northwood took their first lead of the game at 69-66 with 2:17 remaining
- Northwood's final run of the game eventually stood at 15-3 to turn a seven-point deficit into a 71-66 lead with 1:41 remaining
- Ashland got back within two with eight seconds remaining before Northwood connected on two free throws to clinch the victory.

- St. John scored 22 points in the second half.
- From the point where Northwood trailed by a game-high 21, the Timberwolves outscored Ashland 59-34.
