Women's Basketball Drops Tough 89-87 Contest At Michigan Tech

RECAP: Northwood Women's Basketball nearly completed a comeback win at Michigan Tech before falling 89-87 Friday night (December 19).
GAME STORY
- Northwood held a 10-9 lead in the opening quarter when Michigan Tech went on a 9-0 run to take an 18-10 lead.
- The Huskies offense got red-hot down the stretch of the first quarter – MTU made six-straight shots, which allowed them to score 14 points in just 3:23.
- Michigan Tech led by as many as 14 before holding a 30-19 lead after one.
- Northwood chipped away at the lead in the second quarter, eventually getting within three at 46-43 with under two minutes remaining in the half.
- Michigan Tech's lead eventually stood at 51-45 at the break.
- MTU led 57-53 with under seven minutes remaining when the Huskies scored seven straight to go up 64-53.
- The advantage grew to as many as 14 before Michigan Tech held a 73-61 lead heading to the fourth quarter.
- Northwood hung around in the fourth but still trailed 85-77 with under three minutes remaining.
- That is when the Timberwolves started what nearly was a comeback victory, scoring seven straight points to get within one at 85-84 with 24 seconds remaining.
- MTU then led 88-84 with under 10 seconds to go when Karie Keefer made her fourth 3-pointer of the game to put NU within one at 88-87.
- Michigan Tech then split two free throws with 3.1 seconds remaining, which gave Northwood an opportunity to tie or win. NU's final shot came from about 10 feet beyond the 3-point line and nearly banked in but spun out to give the Huskies a two-point win.
