RECAP: Northwood women's basketball controls the final three quarters in a 79-53 win over Lake Erie Saturday (January 17).

GAME STORY

  • Lake Erie scored the first three points of the game and was the better team the majority of the first. The Storm led for more than five minutes of the quarter and held a 14-12 advantage after one.
  • Northwood scored the first five points of the second to take the lead for good.
  • The Timberwolves led by as many as nine before standing with a 30-23 lead at the break.
  • NU put up the first seven points of the third to go up 37-23 1:30 into the second half.
  • Northwood was on top 43-34 with under five minutes remaining in the third when the Timberwolves scored 19 of the final 24 points of the quarter to go up 62-40.
  • Lake Erie scored the first two points of the final quarter, only to see Northwood go on a 16-3 run to give the Timberwolves their biggest lead of the game at 77-45.
  • Northwood eventually won by 26.

  • St. John broke one of the oldest career records in the game. She now has 246 steals for her career, breaking the old record of Beth Mueller. Mueller played at Northwood from 1981-85.
  • In just her second year on the court, Holmes now ranks fourth in school history with 105 career blocks.
  • After going 0-11 from 3-point range in the first half of the game, Northwood went 7-14 from beyond the arc in the second half.
