Bio
Sam Hoyt is the newest member of the Northwood University women's basketball coaching staff, joining the program in the summer of 2014.
“Sam brings with her a great deal of knowledge of the GLIAC that will help her hit the ground running,” said head coach Jeff Curtis. “She will have a big impact on our staff working close with the guards.”
Hoyt began her coaching career during the 2013-14 season as a graduate assistant coach at Youngstown State. The Penguins were one of the top teams in the Horizon League a year ago, leading the conference for a part of the season before finishing in a tie for third overall in the final standings.
One of the best players in the GLIAC in recent history, Hoyt was a three-year starter for Michigan Tech. She scored 1,434 points in her career, good for seventh on the Huskies all-time scoring list. In her career, Michigan Tech posted a 103-22 record. A two-time All-American for the Huskies, Hoyt also earned Academic All-American honors at MTU. She was the starting point guard on the Michigan Tech team that went to the national title game in 2011.
“Having coached against Sam, I always had a great deal of respect for how she carried herself on the court and how she played the game,” said Curtis. “She is a great fit in our program and will do an outstanding job at NU.”
Hoyt graduated with honors from Michigan Tech with a degree in Secondary Education.
