The Northwood Timberwolves women's soccer team dropped a 4-1 contest at Saginaw Valley State Friday afternoon (September 7).
The game was a non-conference matchup between the two GLIAC rivals.
Northwood is now 0-2 on the season. SVSU improves to 1-1-1 overall.
The Cardinals earned the victory thanks to a strong opening four minutes. SVSU netted two goals in the opening 3:45 on their first two shots of the game. The score remained 2-0 until halftime. The stats at the break were even – both teams had five shots while NU held a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
Saginaw Valley State got off to another strong start in the second half, extending their lead to 3-0 less than five minutes after the break. Northwood got on the board in the 65th minute, thanks to a goal from junior Alyssa Tomassi (Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower). Amanda Watson (Oregon, Ohio/Clay) picked up the assist to cut the lead to 3-1. SVSU added a final goal in the 77th minute to round out the scoring.
For the match, the Cardinals finished with a 17-10 advantage in shots. SVSU also had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
The Timberwolves will return to action Sunday at Davenport. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
