Women's Soccer Earns 2-0 Road Win Over Ashland

The Northwood University women's soccer team earned a 2-0 road win over Ashland Sunday afternoon (September 30).

Northwood is now 3-5-1 overall, 3-2-1 in the GLIAC. Ashland falls to 2-8 overall, 1-5 in the GLIAC.

The game was scoreless at halftime. Northwood had a 7-5 advantage in shots and a 4-1 edge in shots on goal. Both teams had four corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes.

The Timberwolves broke through in the 54th minute, as freshman Megan Riley (Davison, Mich.) netted her second goal of the season to give Northwood the 1-0 lead.

Northwood then made it 2-0 less than 14 minutes later. Sophomore Melissa Seymour (Wixom, Mich./Walled Lake Central) netted her first goal of the season at 67:29. The unassisted goal proved to be the last goal of the contest.

For the match, Northwood finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots. Ashland held an 8-6 edge in corners. Freshman keeper Julie Shields (Berkley, Mich.) made three saves for her second straight clean sheet.

Northwood returns home to host Northern Michigan Friday night (October 5). Game time is set for 7 p.m.
