The Northwood University women's soccer team dropped a tough 3-2 contest to Michigan Tech Sunday afternoon (October 7).
The Timberwolves fall to 4-6-1 overall, 4-3-1 in the GLIAC. The Huskies are now 9-2 overall, 7-0 in the GLIAC.
Northwood got on the board first less than four minutes into the game. Alyssa Tomassi (Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower) took a nice feed from Amanda Watson (Oregon, Ohio/Clay) out just out front of the net. Tomassi buried the chance, putting Northwood up 1-0 at the 3:57 mark.
MTU responded almost immediately, tying the game less than a minute later. Both teams had numerous chances, especially in the opening 15 minutes, but the score would remain 1-1 at the break. Northwood finished the opening 45 minutes with an 11-5 edge in shots.
Northwood took the lead early in the second half, thanks to Watson. She showed good skill down the right side and beat the keeper right out front at the 47:40 mark to put NU up 2-1. But the Huskies netted goals in the 69th and the 87th minute to comeback and remain unbeaten in the GLIAC.
For the match, Northwood finished with an 18-11 advantage in shots. MTU had a 3-2 edge in corners.
Northwood will host Notre Dame College Friday (October 12). Match time is set for 2 p.m.
